Alan Tiras
I take pride in providing my clients with not just legal advice but also with holistic business counsel. I have had the honor of working with a number of clients for decades (yes, I’m that old!). While I often provide guidance on discrete legal matters, my understanding of my clients' long-term needs and goals allows me to provide more well-rounded and comprehensive advice.
To increase my value to my clients, I constantly keep apprised of:
-
developments in business and finance;
-
the use of technology in the law and business;
-
local and national political trends; and
-
other service providers who can assist my clients with their legal and business needs.
My Story
I have a passion for business law issues -- particularly with start-up and nascent companies. My practice includes the fields of corporate law, federal tax law, real estate law, wills and trusts, intellectual property and business planning. I have considerable experience in representing a wide range of commercial enterprises, from multinational corporations to domestic publicly held corporations to closely held family businesses. I also assist individual clients with their business planning, real estate, tax, and estate planning needs.
I graduated from the University of Texas with degrees in both accounting and finance, and with 2 years of mechanical and electrical engineering courses. After a stint in the oil business in the mid-1980's, I went back to school, and graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree and an MBA degree from the University of Houston.
After graduation, my family and I moved to Incline Village, Nevada, where I went into private practice and focused my representation on business law matters. In addition to assisting clients in the organization of business entities, I often serve as outside general counsel for clients, utilizing my comprehensive network of other service providers.
I am licensed to practice law in Nevada (1991) and am a member of the Nevada State Bar, the American Bar Association and the Washoe County Bar Association. I am a past president of the Incline Village Bar Association. I have authored materials on forming a business in Nevada, and am a former professor of business law at Sierra Nevada College (now known as Sierra Nevada University and part of the University of Nevada system). I frequently am asked to speak on matter relating to the law, the courts and technology. In addition to my work as an attorney, I have also served in an executive or management capacity for several companies.
I have also served as president/chairman of the Incline Village/Crystal Bay Chamber of Commerce, Incline High School Boosters Club, Incline Village Citizen’s Advisory Board, and the Rotary Club of Tahoe-Incline. In addition, I have served as a member of the Boards of the Incline Schools Academic Excellence Foundation, CYMBAL and Incline Star Follies. In recognition of my community service, I was honored as an Incline Village “Local.” I am also a former city councilman for Seminole, Oklahoma and was honored as that town’s Citizen of the Year in 1985.
