I value my long-term, on-going relationships with clients. To sustain these relationships, I continually strive to:
-
provide practical, business-oriented solutions;
-
provide timely and complete legal advice in plain language;
-
use the latest technology to maximize efficiency and responsiveness; and
-
minimize overall legal and administrative costs for clients.
We are green! Due to the efficiencies of email and scanners, we are practically paperless. We maintain electronic files of our clients' documents rather than paper files. We use e-fax rather than a fax machine. Our paper waste and used toner cartridges are recycled.
My Story
I started my legal career in 1987 in the Dallas office of Strasburger & Price, LLP, a large regional law firm with more than 200 attorneys, and offices in Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Mexico City and Washington DC (since merged into Clark Hill PLC). At that firm, I gained valuable experience in a variety of practice areas, including corporate and securities, mergers and acquisitions, international transactions, oil and gas transactions, business litigation and franchise law. When I left the firm in 2001, I was a partner in the firm's Franchise and Distribution Practice Group, and co-chair of that group.
In 2001, I moved to Los Gatos, California (in Silicon Valley) for family reasons. That same year, I became a member of the California bar, and established my own law practice specializing in franchise and business law for clients across the U.S. and in some foreign countries. In 2004, I became a member of the Nevada bar and moved to Incline Village, Nevada, where I continue to practice franchise and business law. For more information on my franchise law practice, click here.
In 2013, I joined the Law Office of E. Alan Tiras PC, as of counsel, where I worked with Alan Tiras in providing legal services to businesses and individuals in the areas of business planning, corporate law, contracts and other transactions, mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, intellectual property and estate planning, while maintaining my franchise and business law practice. In 2023, Alan and I swapped roles. I formed Vinson Law Firm PC, and Alan joined the firm as of counsel. All of the services previously provided by E. Alan Tiras PC are now provided by Vinson Law Firm PC using the same tradename: “Sierra Lawyers.”
Also in 2023, my wife, Mary, and I acquired CenterPoint Corporate Services, Inc., which provides registered agent services and other corporate services (directly in Nevada, and through affiliated offices in all other states). CenterPoint also handles basic entity filings (including annual updates), provides virtual office services in Nevada (including a Nevada mailing address and phone number), mail forwarding services, and nominee management services for entities that want to keep the names of their owners and management team out of the public record. I am a 1983 graduate of Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering. I earned my J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1987, where I was in the top 15% of the graduating class, and editor of the law school newspaper while working part-time as a law clerk. I am a member of the American Bar Association, ABA Forum on Franchising, State Bar of Texas, California State Bar, State Bar of Nevada, and Washoe County Bar Association. I was nominated by my peers for the highest rating ("AV") in the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory, reflecting "very high to preeminent legal ability and very high ethical standards."
I enjoy outdoor activities and learning how to paint and draw. Since joining Rotary in 2011, I have served as committee chair, director and active volunteer for the Rotary Club of Incline-Tahoe. I am the proud father of 2 grown children living in Maryland and Virginia, and college student at the University of Texas.
